She beat the crap outa me… & I liked it

Sorry. If you were hoping for some lesbian BDSM story, this is not it.

Yesterday, an incredible masseuse dug so deeply into my muscles that I’m surprised my back isn’t covered in bruises. The weight of the world (figuratively, as my life rocks in so many ways) was pulled from my shoulders. It’s crazy the affect those nasty knots and kinks of muscle can have on daily life. I found myself skipping workouts and snapping at family and Scott. Slept restlessly. Sore and angsty at the office. Writer’s block at home.

As her fingers dug into my back, the pain tightened muscles fought back. “Spaghetti,” I reminded myself. “Be the noodle. Be the limp noodle.” Deep tissue massages hurt. I focused on how good those muscles would feel when it was all over to stopper my instinctual reactions. “Be the noodle.”

The moment I jumped off the table, my energy returned to me. I felt like bounding from the room. As I dressed, I felt the negativity fall away and optimism work its way back up, dragging along a bit a shame for that week’s miserable behavior. As I called each person I had been short with, I came to a new realization.

Maybe it’s simply part of growing up. At some point, you have to accept that ‘treats’ change form over time.  There are things like $55 massages that you shouldn’t hold out on like you would for that $150 pair of jeans. It’s not like running to the spa for a manicure. It’s not treat anymore for me. There is significant physical and emotional change from someone beating the crap out of your tight muscles. Every once in a while, when the knots grow like weeds through my back, I’ll swallow the cost and let her take the ache away.

FIRST

Passing a milestone with any project is a Big Deal. Setting milestones or short-term goals are a great way to track your progress and find further motivation toward the end goal.

As I’ve worked my ass off each morning (& some afternoons as well), it was especially exciting to break through my first milestone. I was ecstatic. Victory dancing ensued, and then I ran off to the gym.

A week later, I’m struggling to gain that momentum back. With a mix of tw0-a-days, office lunch parties, & family get-togethers, I’ve had some difficultly staying alert. Getting up at 5:45am has its benefits. But it also leaves you craving a comforter and dark room after several hours. What I needed was a prize. A reward for breaking through that first barrier.

drumroll…

Presents are rock. Why not give gifts for successes? Sure this type of thing could get a little addicting after a while with children… However, for a 25 yr-old who only gets to unwrap gifts 2x a year, this rocks. What prizes do we have for our winner today?

ASICS Gel-DS Trainer 16!
6 pairs of Fitsoks!
AND
2 pairs of Victoria Secret’s Ruched Crop Leggings

Cue: Game show audience applause.

Well now, I’m feeling a bit more inspired. That next milestone won’t even see me coming! Bam.

Geeky Get ‘er Done

Ever wondered how a LOTR geek gets her exercise on?  Normal. That’s how. Lots of treadmills, ellipticals, & calisthenics. However, I have a little fun in how I show the passing of my milestones. (Yes, that’s a glamorous spreadsheet) Below is the plot of my workout goals. Look familiar?

Note: None of these images are my own. None. But they are all awesome.

Ninety sit-ups. 90.

With a sizable chunk of the world’s population, I watched the Royal Wedding. Yes, I woke up at 3:30AM last Friday only for the pleasure of seeing a royal wedding live that would be replayed and highlighted for the rest of the weekend. In my defense, I was getting up at 5:30 anyways to go workout so it was only 2hrs earlier. Yes, I am lame. And it was awesome.

I won’t bore you with the rest of it. If you cared, you would’ve watched. If you don’t care, you don’t want to read my ramblings. Let’s just say that they took so long to kiss, I finished an extra 2.23 miles more than intended while waiting.

I only have one point to make. katemiddletonforthewin. Bam. Regardless of your feelings on Princess Catherine* or the Royals, this tumblr is hilarious. Each new one made me giggle in the days before the ‘big day’. That is, until I saw this one:

That is no laughing matter. Frak. I NEED those abs.

Let me just tie those into my Wish 1. So this is why I whimpered blasted through 90 sit-ups this morning. It’s a new personal record to throw up on the board right next to yesterday’s 64 push-ups. Now if you’ll excuse me, my abs crying for attention. heh. wimps.

*I think she balances the classic grace and patience required with a sense of normalcy. No haters here.

MOFH: April Wish Fulfillment

Reminder: MOFG is My Own Fucking Hero per Wish Fulfillment posts. See Part 1 & Part 2.

April has come and gone with quite a lot of damage. The wishes have been hard at work here in Titletown. No fairy godmothers have appeared in a flurry of sparks while I scrub my kitchen floor. Just hands, knees, & and sopping old rag. So, I’ve pushed on in my efforts to make all my wishes come true this year.

Of all those listed here, the wish that made the most headway was #7 [my library]. I picked away at several others, but the books simply poured in this month. This was definitely helped by the Fox Cities Book Festival whose amazing authors signed several copies of their works for me. However, there were other contributors to the stack: Goodwill, Barnes & Noble, and the WWW. Awesome.

Wishes I’ve delved into this month:

#1 – “Be perfectly fit” – sounds like a preteen type of wording for this wish now that I think about it. All the same, I’ve been going to the gym in the early hours of the morning to gain back my muscle and lose extra wiggle. April Personal Records: 64 pushups & 72 situps

#2 – “Be an author” – I’ve tried to focus on just sitting down and writing but have been so antsy lately. Luckily, I’ve found a few research projects to get the gears turning for a new idea. Bonus: I think I found a writers group at my local B&N!

#3 – “Be really awesome at something”Wish Fulfilled

#7 – “Create the coolest library ever” – Geez, was I, like, seven when I made this list? wow. Ok 7-yr-old self, check out our progress.

#10 – “Organize all my stuff” – There was a wonderful Goodwill trip a few weeks back where I ditched 2 huge arm-loads of donations. It was a mixture of clothes, shoes, and other odds and ends that are no longer needed. While my closet feels a bit lighter, there is still a lot of organizing to do. Bonus: When filling out my taxes, I organized months worth of paperwork. Rock on.

Well, that’s it for April.
Over & out.
